!!!!!my golden moment of the week!!!!!

Hello everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful GOLDEN week like I have! I have been a busy lady but that’s alright because I have tons of energy thanks to exercising and yoga. I wanted to share a little bit about what made my week so golden. I love to bake and I have been working on  cookie and pastry recipes for years because I am planning to open up a coffee shop. Its been a dream of mine for some time and I figured since I am almost close to accomplishing my dream why not test out more of my recipes just to make sure I still have the perfect ones. Well needless to say they are still a hit! and even though I worked on tweeking old recipes and perfecting  new ones. I somehow  found the time to make a brief video of one of my favorite things to bake. And since this months color is gold I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share with you all. So feel free to use it, share it or make it your own.  I know my grandmother would be proud to see me remembering one of her recipes. If she were here I would call her up just to say, “ see granny Callie I was paying attention!” What were some of your golden moments this week? Living my life like its golden!

ola! ola! everyone! I just love that song by Jill Scott LIVING MY LIFE LIKE IT’S GOLDEN. These days it only seems like the perfect song that I love to hear. I know that it has been a week since I posted but I have been busy rediscovering myself and just enjoying life with my family, and that is always top priority for me. I loves my family!!! LOL! I have chosen the new color for the month of April and because of the sunny and beautiful days we have been having on the southern east coast, I have decided that the color will be gold! I also have encountered a few things that made me feel as golden as the color gold that I must share! As I was looking in my big totes of shoes that I am happy to say have downsized from 11 to 2! yay me! I came across these “golden lovelies”   that I did not even remember having! They are “Timothy Hitsmans  shimmery snakeskins” and they are very comfortable because the heel is not that high and it is wider so when worn the weight is distributed evenly which is a plus for a voluptuous woman such as myself. These are vintage  and these are no longer made so score for me! woohoo!

I am an Etsy.com fan and I am also a fan of gold eye shadow or any gold makeup because I like the “Dewy” look on my skin. The only problem is that I can’t wear a lot of the golden makeup products especially  the eye shadows that are out there because I also have very sensitive skin. So as I was doing my daily search on etsy.com I ran across Pink Blossom Cosmetics . These necklaces are so special to my heart because they mean so much and were given to me at a time when money was scarce for my husband and I. I remember when I saw these and I said I liked them but I did not know my husband would actually sacrifice and get them for me. I remember him staying up until 9am on Christmas day trying to get those slits of paper to fit into the heart locket. He was so determined to make them fit just right before he gave them to me. The blue words say: “Trust me” and the red words are from the bible and  says: Mark 11:22-23. So special and no amount of gold can replace the value these hold in my heart.

 

 

This lovely little golden box is so elegant and pretty! I found it at one of many antique stores that my hubby and I love to shop at! I love little treasure like this because they all have a story to tell…one of them being what is the name of the song that plays when its open??

And the final moment I have been waiting to share is the new tablet my beautiful mom sent me this week! I know it’s not gold but it made me feel like I was golden and special and it did relieve the home sick feeling I was feeling because I do miss my mom very much and I can’t wait for her to come and visit in July! That is going to be the best “duas semanas visita” ever! I love you mamae!

I believe that good feelings are contagious and I hope you have some things that have made or continue to make your life's moments golden as these have for me. If you can’t think of any, just take a few moments and think about something that made you all warm and golden on the outside…..just try it for yourself and you will see, it really is a wonderful feeling!

This is my daughters first time doing makeup for a photo shoot and so we decided to do her first makeup video to go along with it.  Even though she was nervous, with a little coaching she did an awesome job on my eye-shadow. I love her and all the positive beautiful women that are helping me to mold her into the young lady she is becoming. Thank you everyone I appreciate all that you have done and continue to do. Peplums, oh how they are pleasing!!!

I know that peplums were one of the many trends for 2012 but I don’t think it was really emphasized fully for plus sized women. I think anytime you have a style that flatters curves on the majority of us full figured fashionistas; ( myself included) than to me it is a timeless fashion trend that never goes out of season. As you continue to read future posts in my blog you will see that I don’t follow trends. I can be somewhat of a fashion rebel basically I do my own thing! I wear what I love, I say what I feel, and because I am a free spirit I basically ride the wind when it comes to my life, fashion and anything else. Peplums are the most universal and versatile style that was ever invented. From the Greek word, peplos, which refers to a long tunic dress women wore where the top draped into a skirt-like shape. Peplum, then as well as now , is as old as Alexander the Great, and has reappeared time and again in the wardrobes of women around the world.  I think that when Alber Elbaz,  said, “I created the peplum style so you can eat in it. You can have a dessert, you can have another sandwich.”   I see that he most definitely does understand how plus size woman or any woman feels about the practicality of clothing and fashion.

Peplums come in all kinds of styles. There are various shapes and sizes, like frilly and flouncy or ruffled and stiff  dimensional ones. Some peplums are so small they’re barely noticeable, while others are the only thing that anyone will notice. No matter what, there is a peplum style that will look great on any size woman. The trick is to find the right type of peplum that draws attention to your most flattering spots and ends at just the right areas that  camouflages  the least flattering ones. You can find peplum skirts and peplum dresses just about everywhere, but peplum tops in particular can be tricky to pair up. Keep reading for different ways to style your peplum pieces.

If you have an hourglass-shaped body, peplums can further emphasize your, already ideal, proportions.

 

* Make sure that the peplum portion of your top or dress is not too high. the peplum should be flaring away from your midsection creating a flattering look.*

 

If you have a top-heavy or inverted triangle then balance is is key when incorporating the peplum style.  When you wear a peplum you will be adding bulk to your lower half and that  will balance out your upper half and make you look like you have a waist, while hiding your tummy.

If you have a heavy bottom and defined waist then you have a pear-shaped body like me. The right peplum dress will draw attention to your waist and camouflage your hips and butt.

If you use peplums with  combination  color blocking, you can make your proportions look even more balanced. Minimize your large bust or wide shoulders by wearing a darker color above the peplum and a lighter color underneath…..

These are my opinion that I feel will give the best look in the peplum style for the plus size woman. By no means am I any fashion chief of rule maker of fashion! These ideas were merely shared by me in hopes that someone would find some useful hints that will help them be as fashionable and fabulous as every woman wants to be. So take what you find helpful and explore any style possibility that you have, feel free to share if you like, but just remember when it comes to peplums….A good, well-proportioned peplum can make your waist look smaller and become the focal point. there is no reason you shouldn't own a peplum piece in your wardrobe.
